Washington Bill of Sale

If you are buying and selling a car in Washington, the state requires your complete a bill of sale to document the transaction. This records the transaction and acts as the receipt. The seller must make two copies for themselves and for the buyer.

The date of the sale, names and address of both parties and other identifying pieces of information are required. It is recommended to use the Bill of Sale template provided by the Washington DOL: http://www.dol.wa.gov/forms/420065.pdf.

The seller is responsible for making two copies, one for themselves and one for the buyer. Once the transaction is finalized, and the car title transferred, the seller is no longer responsible for the vehicle.
