Washington Driver Manuals

Receiving a driver's license gives you freedom, and new responsibility to drive safely. The DOL does not award a license to drivers who may be unsafe or unknowledgable. To start learning the laws and road rules of Washington state, your first order of business is to review the Washington Driver's Manual.

Pay particular attention to the chapters on traffic signs and pavement markings because a great deal of the written questions will focus on those rules.

Once you pass the written test (80 percent or above results), you will then need to pass a driving and vision test.

Listed below, you'll find some of the driving tasks you'll have to know and perform for the road test.

  • Turn signals and use of the horn
  • Following another vehicle
  • Approaches to intersections, stop signs and traffic signals
  • Backing up
  • Three-point turnabout
